Frequently asked questions

How Minebit works, in plain words. If something is missing, email support@minebit.dev.

The basics

What is Minebit?

Minebit is a job board for Minecraft talent: developers, builders, artists, video editors, content creators and other people who make things for servers. Networks (servers, studios and communities) post paid work, talent build profiles that show what they have shipped, and the two sides message each other. Talent can also earn a Vetted mark, which means a person at Minebit read their shipped work.

Who is it for?

Talent: plugin, mod and add-on developers, backend and DevOps people, builders and level designers, artists and UI designers, editors, moderators and server administrators. Networks: anyone who runs a Minecraft server, studio or community and wants to hire.

Does Minebit cost anything?

Not right now. Minebit is in a free pilot, so every feature is free and no payment is taken. Posting a job is free and always will be. Later, only promotion features may cost money, such as featuring a job, bumping a job, notifying matching talent, promoted taglines and the 30 day insights window. Basic view counts and 7 days of insights are free. Prices are always shown before you pay, and we may end the pilot or start charging at any time. See the Terms. Applying for the Vetted mark is free.

Does Minebit handle payment between a network and the talent it hires?

No. Payment for work is arranged directly between the two of them. Minebit does not hold, escrow, insure or guarantee those payments and cannot reverse or recover them. Agree terms in writing, and consider paying in stages. See Money between users.

Is Minebit affiliated with Mojang or Microsoft?

No. Minebit is an independent site. Minecraft is a trademark of Mojang Studios, and we use the word only to describe what the game is.

How do I contact you?

Email support@minebit.dev. Use it for questions, account problems and data requests. For a problem with another user, use the Report link on their profile or network page instead, so moderators can review it properly.

For talent

How do I get started?

Sign in, then open My profile and fill in your headline, a short bio, your skills and platforms, your rate and your availability. Add the things you have shipped and the servers you have worked on under Work history. Then browse jobs, or wait for networks to find and invite you.

What does the Vetted mark mean?

It means a person at Minebit looked at some of the work you chose to submit, at one point in time, and decided to apply the mark. It is not an endorsement, and it does not mean someone is safe, reliable, skilled, honest or free of AI-written code. Networks can choose to accept only vetted talent for a role. See what the marks mean.

How do I get vetted?

On My profile, use the Vetting box: submit at least two links to work you shipped (plugin or store pages, repositories, listings) and a statement of at least 60 characters about which parts you wrote and what the reviewer should look at. A person reads it. You will see the result, with notes, on your profile. If it is not approved you can apply again.

How long does vetting take?

Reviews are done by hand, so there is no fixed turnaround and we cannot promise one. Include work that you can show and explain, because that makes a review quicker.

I build or design rather than code. Can I join?

Yes. Anyone can create a profile, and the directory has a Type filter for developers, builders, artists, and creators and editors. Vetting reviews whatever shipped work you submit, but the process was built around reading code, so it is strongest for developers today. Builders, artists, video editors and content creators can still apply with links to their work, such as videos, a channel or a portfolio, and a person looks through it.

How do I apply to a job?

Open the job and write a message of 20 to 2,000 characters about what you have built that fits and when you can start. You can apply once per job. Some roles only accept vetted talent. If you are blacklisted from applying, or the network does not allow AI-generated code and your profile says you use it, you will see that on the page.

How does matching work?

Your dashboard ranks open jobs by how well they fit your skills, platforms, rate and availability. Networks can also see talent who fit their roles, invite them to apply, or pay to notify close matches. You can switch off match notifications on your profile.

Who can message me, and who sees my Discord name?

Networks and other talent can message you from your profile, and you can message networks from theirs or from a job page. If you have both a talent profile and a company, you choose which one you are messaging as each time. You can turn new messages off in your profile settings. Your profile and work are public. Your Discord name is shown only to signed-in networks that have a company on Minebit. You can hide your profile from the directory in your profile settings.

What is the AI use setting?

On your profile you can say whether you write code with AI tools, or prefer not to say. It shows as a small tag. Networks can say whether a job allows AI-generated code, and people who say they use AI are not recommended for jobs that refuse it. It is self-declared. Misstating it breaks the Terms: a report can lead to an admin setting it to "Uses AI" and locking it, or to other action.

How do I promote my profile?

You can buy a short tagline (up to 180 characters) that appears above your card in the directory and on your profile, for 7, 14, 30 days. It is reviewed before it goes live. Only 4 profiles can be promoted at once. When the slots are full you join a queue, and you can add an optional bid: the highest bid gets the next slot, and has 24 hours to claim it before it moves on. After a promotion ends there is a 3-day wait before the same account can book again. It is free during the pilot.

What size can my profile picture and banner be?

Profile picture: PNG, JPG or WebP, up to 1 MB, 64 to 1024 pixels on each side. Banner: up to 3 MB, 400 to 3200 pixels. The page checks the file before it uploads.

For networks

How do I post a job?

Sign in, add your company on the Company page, then use Post a job. Give it a title, a category, a platform, the pay and a description of at least 80 characters. Every listing must show its pay. Enter 0 if the work is unpaid and it is shown as Unpaid. A listing stays up for 30 days, and you can edit or close it at any time.

What is a Verified employer?

A badge showing that an admin confirmed your network controls the server, site or community it points to. To apply, publish the verification code shown on your Company page somewhere public that you control, such as your server MOTD, website or Discord description, then submit where to look. A person checks it by hand, usually within a few days. It is not an endorsement.

Can I only accept vetted talent?

Yes. Tick "Only vetted talent can apply" when you post or edit a job. You get fewer applicants, and each one has had work reviewed by hand.

Can I allow or ban AI-generated code on a job?

Yes. Choose "AI-assisted code is allowed" or "No AI-generated code" on the job form. It shows as a tag on the listing. Talent who say they use AI are not recommended for jobs that do not allow it, and they see a warning if they apply anyway. You will see a flag on their application.

How do I find and invite talent?

Switch your dashboard to Hiring mode to see talent who fit your open roles, ranked by match. You can invite one person or the best matches to apply. You can also pay to notify talent who match a role at 40% to 80% or better. A notification reaches up to 50 people, you can send 3 per job, and people who already applied, were invited or opted out are skipped.

How do I hire someone and finish the job?

On your job's page, set an applicant to Hired. When the work is done, use "Finish job and review": say whether it was completed or ended early, give a star rating, choose to vouch or not, and write feedback. Completed jobs and your review then show on the person's profile. The person can review your network too.

How do I feature a job?

On a live job's Promote page, you can pin it to the top of the list for 3, 7, 14 days. Only 4 jobs can be featured at once, with the same queue and bidding as profile promotions. Each account holds one slot at a time, and it is free during the pilot.

Services, quotes, bounties and more

What is the difference between a job, a bounty, a service and a quote?

A job is a role a network posts and people apply to. A bounty is a small fixed-price task, also posted by a network and applied to the same way. A service is a commission a talent or a network (a build team, studio and so on) offers, with a starting price, that anyone with a company or a talent profile can ask about. A quote request is a network describing one piece of work to a few people and asking each for a price. Pick whichever fits how much you know about what you need.

What is a bounty?

A small task with one fixed price, up to $500, for example fixing a bug or building a spawn. It runs for 14 days and is free to post. People apply, the network picks someone, and the two of you can review each other afterwards, exactly as with a job. Bigger or ongoing work should be a job.

How do I offer a service?

On the Services page of your dashboard, add a title, a category, what the buyer gets, a starting price (fixed or per hour) and a usual delivery time. You can list up to 8. They appear on the services page and on your profile, and networks message you from there. You agree the scope and payment with them directly. You can hide or remove a service at any time.

Can a build team or studio offer services?

Yes. Switch to network mode in your dashboard, open Services and list what your team takes, the same way a person does. Network services appear on the services page with a Network label, and on your network page. If you have both a talent profile and a company, the Services page lets you pick which one you are listing for. People ask about a service from its page: a company or a talent profile can message you, and you answer from your inbox. Network services do not carry a rating, because reviews on Minebit come from jobs, but a Verified employer badge shows if the network has one.

How do I ask several people for a quote?

Networks can use Ask for quotes: pick up to 5 people, write one brief, and send it. Each person gets a notification and a message, and replies with a price and a time, or declines. You see the answers side by side, and can accept one and carry on in your conversation. A request stays open for 14 days. Talent can turn quote requests off in their profile.

Does Minebit handle payment for services, quotes and bounties?

No. You arrange payment directly with the other person, and Minebit does not hold, escrow or guarantee it. Agree what is delivered and when it is paid in writing, and consider paying in steps for bigger work. The guide on working together safely covers this. If someone does not pay or deliver you can report them, but we cannot recover money.

Can I import my projects from GitHub or Modrinth?

Yes, on the import page. To make sure nobody imports someone else's work, you put a one-time code in the bio of your account, we check it, and then you pick which projects to add. You can take the code out of your bio straight afterwards. Imported projects show a small badge saying where they came from. SpigotMC and BuiltByBit cannot be checked this way, so add those by hand.

What is a Founder?

People who sign up while Minebit is in its pilot become founders, with a number such as Founder #12. Your name is drawn in shimmering blue on your profile, network page and in lists, and your number shows in the profile details. It is a thank-you for being early, not a trust mark like Vetted. When paid features start, founders receive credit that is applied automatically to promotions and other paid features. The number of founders may be limited, and the program is only open for a time. Your badge and credit are on your Account page.

Why does my network page show a server list entry?

If you add a server address on your Company page, your network page shows it like the in-game multiplayer list: icon, message of the day, players online and version. Our server contacts the address you gave, as a normal player's game would, and refreshes it about once a minute. We try Java Edition first, then Bedrock. Only public internet addresses are contacted. If the entry says it cannot reach your server, the server check on your Company page gives the likely reason, such as a firewall or a DDoS filter dropping our connection. Remove the address to remove the entry.

Can I add screenshots to my projects?

Yes, up to 4 per project, from your work history page. Pictures can be PNG, JPG or WebP. You must have the right to show them.

What is the badge and short link for my profile?

Your work history page shows a short link (minebit.dev/u/your-name) and a ready-made badge you can paste into a GitHub README. The badge shows your name, your Vetted status and your rating, and updates by itself.

What is the feedback board?

A place to ask for a review of your portfolio before you apply for vetting or look for work. Requests are public. Only vetted talent, staff and admins can answer other people's requests, so the advice comes from people whose work was checked. Replies are opinions, not a guarantee of anything. Ask on the feedback board.

How does a network list me on its team?

The network enters your profile link and your role. Nothing shows until you accept it on your work history page. Once accepted it appears on the network's page and on yours, and you can leave at any time. A team can have up to 20 people.

Where do the rates in the rate guide come from?

The ranges are our own estimates based on common commission pricing in the Minecraft community, and we say when they were last reviewed. They are not a quote and not calculated from Minebit data. A separate section on the rate guide shows real figures from listings on Minebit once a group has enough of them to avoid pointing at individuals.

Where can I see what has changed on the site?

On the changelog. It lists new features, changes and fixes by date, and you can filter to talent, networks or the platform. It also has a feed you can subscribe to.

Reviews, vouches and ratings

Who can leave a review?

Only the two sides of a hire, after the talent has been marked Hired on a job. The network reviews the talent, the talent reviews the network, and each can leave one review per hire. You can edit your own review. Reviews must be honest and based on real work. See Reviews, vouches and star ratings.

What does a vouch mean?

A vouch says you would work with them again, and a decision not to vouch says you would not. A vouch needs 3 stars or more, and not vouching fits 3 stars or fewer. Both come with written feedback.

How is the star rating worked out?

It is the average of the stars from reviews that count, pulled toward 3.5 until there are a few reviews, so one 5-star review shows as about 4.0 and not a perfect 5. Reviews from accounts that signed up by email only count once the account is 7 days old, and reviews from banned accounts or removed reviews do not count.

Can a review about me be removed?

You cannot edit or delete a review someone wrote about you, but an admin can remove fake, abusive or retaliatory ones, and a removed review cannot be posted again. If you think one breaks the rules, use the Report link.

Safety and reports

How do I stay safe when hiring or being hired?

Look at the profile, the work and the reviews, and remember that the Vetted and Verified marks are not guarantees. Agree the scope and payment in writing before work starts, and consider staged payments. Review and test any code before you run it, and keep backups. Nobody legitimate needs you to pay a fee to get a job.

Someone asked me for money before I could start. What do I do?

Do not pay it, and report them. Charging a fee before work is not allowed here. Use the Report link on their profile or network page and choose "Scam or fraud", or the category that fits.

How do I report someone, and what happens next?

Use the Report link on any developer profile or network page. Describe what happened with dates and evidence links. The reported person is told and can reply, and moderators read both sides and the messages between you, then decide. Possible outcomes are no action, a warning, a blacklist, a change to an AI declaration, removing Vetted or Verified status, or a ban. We are not a court: we cannot award money, recover payments or force anyone to deliver. See Reports and disputes.

What is a blacklist?

Staff can blacklist a talent profile from applying to jobs, or a network from posting new jobs. Nothing else changes, it is not a ban, and it can be lifted. The blacklist and the reason are shown publicly in a banner on the profile or network page. See Blacklists and deleting accounts.

What happens to a banned account?

It is hidden, its jobs are closed and its promotions end, and its owner can no longer sign in. Paid items on a banned account are not refunded.

Who can read my messages?

The two people in the conversation. Moderators and admins may also read them when they are reviewing a report or dealing with abuse. See the Privacy Policy.

Your account, data and payments

How do I sign in?

With Discord, or with a one-time link sent to your email. The email link works once and expires after 15 minutes. A Discord account has to be at least 14 days old to sign up, which keeps out throwaway accounts.

Can I change my display name?

Yes. Open Account. A name you choose there is never overwritten by Discord. Your company name is set separately on the Company page.

How do I delete my account?

Open Account and use "Delete my account". It is immediate and permanent: it removes your profile, work history, networks and jobs, applications, messages, reviews, promotions, notifications and pictures. We keep only a record that a deletion happened, with a short fingerprint of your email and not the address. Backups clear within about two weeks. It waits if there is an open report about your account, and it is not a refund event. You can sign up again later.

Can I get a copy of my data?

Yes. Account has "Download my data", which gives you a JSON file with your account, profile, work history, networks, applications, reviews, messages you sent and more.

Who can see my profile and what you store?

Talent profiles and network pages are public, unless you hide your profile. The Privacy Policy lists what we collect, who sees it, who we share it with and how long we keep it.

Can I get a refund?

No. Once paid features start, all payments are final and non-refundable under all circumstances, including for promotions that expire, are rejected or get no response. Nothing is charged during the free pilot. See No refunds.

Still stuck?

Email support@minebit.dev. For a problem with another user, use the Report link on their profile instead. The full rules are in the Terms and Privacy Policy.
